THE PLACE TO BE…

Visit the pretty village of Waddington and enjoy unrivalled food and drink at an elegant gastro pub with rooms, writes Julie Whalley

The Higher Buck Inn, is located in the picturesque village of Waddington, near Clitheroe, and it stands proudly at the gateway to the breathtakingly dramatic Bowland Fells, sitting centrally to some of the most stunning landscapes and visitor attractions in Lancashire.

Renowned for their creative use of local produce, the inn’s talented kitchen team prepare fantastic food, ranging from delicious sandwiches at lunchtime to pub classics such as Fleetwood fish pie or steamed steak and ale pudding. The specials boards are full of exciting seasonal dishes – for example Lune Valley sea trout with Jersey Royals or local mallard Wellington.

The bar area is particularly welcoming, elegantly adorned with tasteful, comfortable furniture where one can easily sit all afternoon enjoying a bottle of wine (or two) adjacent to the cosy warming fire in the colder months or enjoying the wonderful views down to the village from the outside tables.

Having undergone extensive refurbishment in 2014, the inn now boasts seven beautifully appointed en suite bedrooms. Each very spacious with a real home from home feel, perfect for guests who may be visiting family, attending local weddings, events or festivals, perhaps even business meetings, or more often than not, simply taking in a mid-week break while enjoying a host of activities available in the Ribble Valley and beyond.

There is so much to see within the Ribble Valley alone, from food and drink focused days – maybe visiting Gazegill Organic Farm, one of the inn’s suppliers or the mecca of northern vintners, D Byrnes & Sons in Clitheroe, to perhaps, a day’s fishing or even shooting in the winter months. If history and heritage is of interest then Clitheroe Castle and stately homes such as Browsholme Hall or Gawthorpe Hall are all within easy reach. The Ribble Valley is a veritable wonderland for walkers and cyclists and there is no better place to slip off those muddy boots and relax with a pint of local real ale.

No matter where guests may find themselves during the day, the friendly team at the Higher Buck welcome their return, and enjoy being able to provide a wonderful stay in quintessential English surroundings.
