CURATING CONTEMPORARY ART

Sarah de Waard talks to artist and entrepreneur Graeme Windle about his bespoke contemporary art curation business and inaugural Atlantic Art Fair taking place in Clitheroe this month

Ribble Valley artist and former senior teacher Graeme Windle has combined his passion for contemporary art with his expert knowledge of the industry, to launch a successful business curating contemporary art from around the world for both private individuals and businesses.

Atlantic Contemporary Art has fast become an international success, with clients from all over the world calling on Graeme’s expertise.

Graeme tells me: “Our mission is to provide high quality contemporary art within a trusted and comfortable environment. Whether it’s a full house curation or just that one special piece a client is looking for to fit a blank space in their home or office, we can find the right artwork to suit both budget and lifestyle. We aim to take the stress out of trawling through hundreds of websites or visiting intimidating galleries.”

Providing a range of art by mid-career established artists from Saatchi and Saatchi, the Royal Academy and Chelsea School of Art to name a few, quality and provenance is guaranteed. “Our artists have work in museums and private collections all over the world, from the National Portrait Gallery to the Ashmolean and many places in between,” Graeme tells me.

“We offer a free consultation and curation service to all our clients. You can contact us for an informal, confidential chat and we will be happy to come to you. When one of our team arrives, we will show you digital images of the available artwork and then bring your chosen pieces to you, so you can view them in situ and see exactly how a piece will look in your home or office. If it is an investment that you are looking for we can advise on this too. The whole service is free and there is no obligation to buy.

“When you have decided on a piece we will ship it to your door, handle and install it for you with our qualified staff from the Chelsea School of Art.”

A core value of the company is to establish the Ribble Valley as a destination for quality contemporary art, and to encourage young people in the area to enter the art world. As a former senior teacher with over 20 years’ experience, Graeme is passionate about introducing art to a new generation.

This month sees the launch of Graeme’s inaugural art fair, delivered by Atlantic Contemporary Art and held at The Grand in Clitheroe.

Graeme explains: “The Atlantic Art Fair is an opportunity for members of the public to come and see an exhibition of our artists’ work, and to take part in workshops held by heads of faculty at some of the top art schools and galleries in the country.
