A New Shopping Experience

People have been enjoying shopping at the new Preston Markets since its opening in February

Having undergone an exciting major redevelopment, the brand-new Market Hall located under part of the grand 1875 Victorian canopy opened this February. The structure, designed to provide views up into the restored canopy, brings the market into the 21st century whilst maintaining its history and heritage.

Traditional butchers, fishmongers, dairy and fruit and veg stalls can be found in the shape of familiar traders including Livesey’s Butchers, Clarke and Sons, Mark William’s Fishmonger, Superveg and Pickle’s of Preston cheese. Most recently the market has welcomed new fruit and veg trader Fresh and Fruity. Several stalls have expanded their offers such as Pickle’s offering a cheese and wine bar – a great alternative way to spend a couple of hours catching up with friends or family.

You’re spoilt for choice at lunchtime with the variety of hot and cold food on offer. Find yourself in the Caribbean with World Foods tasty selection of curries or enjoy some international street food at MoMoz. As we move into the autumn Crunchy Croutons gourmet soups are the perfect way to warm up. Along with the fantastic selection of hot sandwiches to take away at Redman’s including the Yorkshire Pudding Wrap.

If you can afford a bit more time sit in at one of the cafés with traditional market food on offer at Aunty Dolly’s and a modern selection of hot food, drinks and cakes at Brew + Bake and Cherry Pie. And if you’re looking for a something a little stronger head to The Orchard Bar or pick up some locally brewed craft ales from Priest Town Brewing at the Box Market.

Customers can still purchase their pies, cooked meats and black pudding from Arthur Strand and favourite sweets from Sugar Rush.

Former traders from the old market Sheridan’s Bags and Bags, UR Phones, Market Jewellers, Wisebuy’s Hair and Beauty, Capelli Remi and Market Newsagents all have stalls too.

Box Market
Complementing the new market hall is the innovative Box Market. With inspiration taken from well-known London markets, upgraded shipping containers located under the historic Fish Market canopy form the Box Market, providing an edgy contrast to the more traditional stalls in the market hall.

The Box Market welcomed Pet Stop Pet Supplies, TimeWerx and Karen’s Collectables. And we eagerly await the opening of The Yarn Box and Jonah’s towards the end of September.

Outdoor and Secondhand Markets
Preston Markets wouldn’t be complete without the Outdoor and Secondhand Markets. Long standing traders – Stewart’s Cards, The Book Stops Here and Derek’s Books – returned to the refurbished outdoor spaces, along with home furnishings, furniture, pet supplies, DVDs, plants, flowers, clothing and gifts to name but a few.

With an abundance of fresh, local ingredients, quality hot and cold food available to eat in and take away – as well as gifts and products for the everyday – we look forward to welcoming you at the markets soon!
