SUMMERTIME FUN

Summer at Samlesbury Hall is set to be a fun time for the whole family with so many activities to enjoy together, writes Gail Bailey

The idyllic setting of Samlesbury Hall is the place to be in the summer of 2019, with so much entertainment for families and friends to enjoy.

On the 12th and 13th July there is a glorious weekend of entertainment planned, with live music and delicious food. Begin by toasting marshmallows on the firepit on Friday 12th and listen to tales of witchcraft and sorcery by resident storyteller ‘Witch Janey’, and for those brave enough stay up late to follow local legend Simon Entwistle on a spooky ghost trail.

Spend the night in one of the chic Shepherd’s Huts and wake for lots more fun on Saturday. Plenty of fabulous food is available from The Billiard Room Restaurant and England’s first ever wafflery, ‘Dottie’s, will be open with a selection of mouth-watering sweet treats.

“There will be a range of activities on offer for all the family,” explains Hall Director Sharon Jones: “Have an ice-cream in the courtyard, a trip to the Mayflower play area, visit the animals and take part in the treasure hunt too!”

There will also be children’s yoga on the lawn, face painting and games. In the evening the chilled-out fun continues with live music where you can sit back, enjoy and relax. There will be plenty of fantastic food on offer with wood fired pizzas made to order on Friday evening and a hog roast on Saturday.

“Bring a deck chair and enjoy some laid-back leisure time,” says Sharon. “It’s just £5 for a day ticket. A two-night stay is £149 and one night £99 – a fantastic offer for what promises to be a fantastic weekend.”

It isn’t just the weekend of the 12th and 13th that Samlesbury Hall are offering some chill-out time. Every Thursday during school holidays is a ‘Pizza and Prosecco’ night.

“Our pizza oven will make your mouth water as soon as you step into our beautiful festoon lit courtyard,” Sharon says. Guests can sit by the fountain, choose a pizza and enjoy with an ice-cold glass of Prosecco (or half a Peroni if you would prefer). At just £10 per person this really is a perfect way to ease slowly into the weekend.

Every Monday to Thursday Betsy Bumble Bee is on-hand to entertain the children. With two sessions (11am then 12 noon) she tells her own very special stories and children can join in the treasure hunt, finding clues around the Hall. This event is completely free and lots of fun (but please arrive in plenty of time to avoid disappointment). No picnics are allowed – but much better to treat yourself to a bite to eat in the restaurant or at the fabulous Dottie’s Wafflery instead.

There’s so much to enjoy at this very special venue, making summer at Samlesbury Hall the very best place to be.
