TIGER COLLECTION

A combination of a rediscovered Chinese art and ancient folklore are the inspiration behind this unique collection of handcrafted cushions

Made to order, each cushion in the Mischievous Tiger collection from Ori Bespoke brings together the UNESCO-protected skill of Su embroidery with the legend of the tiger – said to be the king of beasts in Chinese mythology.

The tiger is regarded as one of the most powerful and ferocious creatures in Asian culture, and as such, it is often depicted and embroidered on children’s hats, pillows and shoes to protect them from evil spirits.

Here, Ori Bespoke’s team of professional craftspeople have hand-sewn tiger-inspired motifs onto the eight-strong collection. Handmade to order, there are six different designs available across five colours.

Each design is hand drawn by watercolour first, before being transferred onto a silk canvas and hand-embroidered by crafters all exceptionally skilled in Su embroidery.

Su embroidery is typified by elegant colours, neat edges and beautiful patterns. Such is the refinement of Su embroidery, it can be difficult to tell it apart from a painting. In fact, most Su embroidery works start life as an intricate watercolour painting, before being transferred onto fabric.

Pei Li, Ori Bespoke founder, said: “Bringing this ancient Chinese art form into the home has been a dream of mine.”

“A cushion collection was a natural choice and combining the Asian folklore of the tiger with Su embroidery has created a stunning collection, giving homeowners plenty of choice when it comes to furnishing their property.”
