A Sprinkling of Stardust…

As the magic of Christmas unfolds at Holden Clough, there is more to see and do than ever before! Photography: Kirsten Platt

Romantic, glittering fairy lights, pine trees and seasonal decorations along with a series of festive, merry markets are set to spread cheer, hope and joy at Holden Clough this Christmas.

There has never been a better time to visit the nursery – in the winter time when the magic of the Glasshouse beckons and as early dusk falls, the golden glow of thousands of little lights guide you around the many and varied attractions.

The newly installed Shepherd’s Hut offers heart-warming food including cakes, bagels and hot chocolate, while the Garden Room offers a sanctuary of peace where you can watch the world go by while looking out over the neighbouring woodland.

Discover the Indian arches off the Glasshouse and enjoy a total sensory experience with glowing golden decorations and check out the traditional Christmas woodland-themed baubles and accessories in stunning shades of red, white, silver and gold.

A birch screen with twinkling lights provides a focal point for shoppers enjoying one of the late-night opening events along with four Christmas markets that will have a different theme – Cheer, Merry, Joy and Hope – with varying stallholders at each event.

Christmas trees and wreaths galore adorn the nursery, which has a stunning selection of plants outside. Wander through the shale paths to find shrubs or trees for that shady or sun-drenched area of your garden. The ethos of the nursery is: ‘If a plant grows at Holden Clough it will grow anywhere!’

There is also a seed shop too, not to mention the beautiful curios and homeware featured in the Glasshouse where visitors will find a wonderland of gorgeous gifts and seasonal plants together with vintage style pots. Flickering candles and hurricane lanterns illuminate the glassware, cosy cushions, comfy throws, antique furniture, textiles and lighting while the golden glow of the wood burning stove makes this visitor experience truly memorable.

There are dovecotes, obelisks and an array of indoor houseplants too, that all make lovely, festive ‘gardener gifts’!

Visit Holden Clough this Christmas and see the magic unfold!
