Autumn Innovation

Tedd Walmsley visits the Black Bull at Old Langho to discover a number of new innovations for the forthcoming season

Working with Becky Govier and her delightful team is such a positive experience. They are literally the most enthusiastic and passionate group around and my monthly meeting just last week created a real sense of excitement as to what’s in store at the Black Bull this autumn.

Where to begin? I guess I should put things into some sort of chronology and start with some new innovations. Becky and her team of chefs have curated a new menu aiming at ‘ladies who lunch’. This has a healthy basis of incredible salad options with a host of protein choices to create a wonderful lunch perfect post gym and fitness class, for example. Knowing Becky as I do, the sneaky addition of a free glass of prosecco is a little treat post-workout.

Another brand-new initiative is that kids eat free between 3.30pm and 5pm Monday to Friday. This new addition is based on requests and demand for the perfect spot for a post-school tea to make things easy for mum and dad. This offer is ongoing and will be available through half term too!

Another new idea is for cocktail master classes – so many people love a cocktail, and we all have our favourites but are open minded to something new. Why not grab a few friends and book a class. It’s sure to be lots of fun and I’m sure your new creation will be a winner! Who knows, it might even become part of the new cocktail menu at the Black Bull.

Events at the pub continue to grow month by month. A combination of the personal touch and the efficiencies of their new systems have made the Black Bull the ‘go to’ for private parties and celebrations of all kinds. The popularity of the venue suggests booking early is going to be essential.

Autumn often heralds a new season’s crop of incredible ingredients and a switch of menu. The head chef and his brigade are slowly introducing new autumn dishes perfect for those cold dark nights to come. The traditional pubs come into their own with fires blazing and a cosy atmosphere created to enjoy your well-earned downtime. Whilst not known for hosting frequent events, when Becky puts on a ‘do’ it tends to be spectacular or in this case ‘spooktacular’! Saturday 28th October will see the most incredible Halloween event held in the outside marquee – this is strictly for over 18s and is guaranteed to be a night to remember.

We are of course, moving quickly towards Christmas and thoughts may well turn to organising small parties for friends, family and work mates. The Black Bull offering will give you an excellent combination. It goes without saying that the pub will be dressed with stunning Christmas decorations to create the perfect festive atmosphere, great food is guaranteed and the service both personal and professional. Becky is also intending to introduce some low-key entertainment to add even more to this fabulous offering. The menus will be available online and be sure to look out for their strong social media posts. Whilst still on the Christmas theme, those of us who like to get ahead can secure their gift vouchers from the website – easy to purchase and download, I can think of many people, including myself, who would be thrilled to receive such a gift. You are of course also supporting Becky and her team, and I urge you to do so.

The Black Bull deserves all the awards and accolades it receives – testimony to the hard work and passion from this amazing group.
