Ribble Cycles talk to DJ Spoony, who has just taken delivery of a unique Special Edition Ultra SL R that has been customised to create the ultimate dream machine
Luxury heritage bicycle brand Ribble Cycles specialise in handcrafting signature style bikes and bespoke masterpieces. The most recent collaboration with DJ Spoony is rather special and more fitting in an art gallery hanging from a wall than out on the road.
The unique Special Edition Ultra SL R was hand delivered to his vinyl room shortly after DJ Spoony had fronted 30 Years of Garage set at this year’s MOBO Awards.
Ribble’s in-house experts meticulously masterminded a resplendent design scheme to create the ultimate dream machine. Featuring a hand painted Gold Flame, Black and Gold paint finish, the design takes inspiration from DJ Spoony’s vinyl room. His own logo wraps around the bike’s forks and is engraved on the headset top cap. Handwritten lyrics from Princes Sign O’ The Time Album – Starfish and Coffee – his favourite songs are inscribed on the inside of the seat stay.
Spoony’s Ultra SL R is equipped with Shimano DuraAce Di2, Fizik Arione saddle and finished with a custom set of Mavic wheels.
Passionate about cycling, DJ Spoony originally got into the sport after sustaining an injury from running and has embraced the positive benefits that riding has on your physical and mental health. So much so, that Spoony is looking at creating an open-to-all cycling social ride with Ribble to promote well-being, health and happiness.
DJ Spoony (Johnathan Joseph) says: “Cycling is all about the social aspect for me and this bike will be a talking point. I love the idea that when I check my bike over before every ride, I’ll see the lyrics of a song that always puts a big smile on my face – it will help me get up the hills! I can’t wait to get this bike out onto the road as I know how fast they are and how stunning they look. But this bike takes it up a gear (no pun intended).”
