DESTINATION SHOPPING

A chat with Richard Clare. Photography: Paul Currie

Featuring some of the world’s leading labels including Armani, Paul Smith, Hugo Boss, Vivienne Westwood, Ralph Lauren, Belstaff and Stone Island, Nigel Clare has been established for more than two decades and still sees original customers returning.

The Nigel Clare team offers a unique experience – they offer everything from casual wear to formal wear.

The season for weddings, proms and racing offers customers the chance to select a formal outfit to suit all budgets. And it comes as no surprise that Nigel Clare is the go-to place when it comes to buying a suit.

British champion boxer Jack Catterall turned to Nigel Clare when he needed a suit prior to a press conference at BT Tower in London recently. Within hours he had a personally tailored suit, shirt, tie, shoes and belt, as Richard Clare recalls: “He was looking for a slim fitting, tailored suit and, as we have the largest collection of suits in the region, we were able to supply and tailor it within hours, so he was ready to go the following day.”

The shop has strong collaborations with Blackburn Rovers FC, Leicester City FC and Crystal Palace FC – testament that Nigel Clare has the calibre of brands that attracts fashion conscious men, who respect enduring style and quality.

Whether it’s formal or casual wear, Nigel Clare has all the world-class labels you would expect and is constantly updating its offering to keep ahead of the industry. Richard and his father Nigel, who founded the business 23 years ago, regularly visit the headquarters of all their core brands and are constantly refreshing the fringe labels they stock.

With two distinct sides to the store, the casual element exudes a relaxed laid-back vibe and features the likes of Orlebar Brown summer wear and jeans by Jacob Cohen. The formal side of the business is just as friendly so customers can, and do, switch between the two putting together whole outfits.

Whether it’s for a Saturday night shirt or a special occasion, you’re sure to find something that will appeal to your taste, and it’s just a half-hour drive from the Ribble Valley.

“We are fortunate to have loyal customers that have shopped with us from day one, but we also have a steady flow of new faces, which inspires the company to go from strength to strength.”

With their sister ladies’ boutique Maidens across town, Nigel Clare continues to evolve – made to measure suits are becoming more popular while autumn will see a relaunch of the website. Watch this space!
