Enjoy the Great Outdoors

According to the Office of National Statistics, time spent gardening and doing DIY has risen by 147 per cent, to 39 minutes a day, during the coronavirus pandemic

For those lucky enough to have a garden, being in lockdown and the fantastic weather we have had, has meant an opportunity to get all those outdoor jobs done that have been on the list for years.

Being outside is not only good for our Vitamin D levels, but we all want to relax in an area which is an extension to our home. So, combine gardening with DIY and we have a match made in heaven.

Fences were painted, new outdoor furniture purchased, sheds were built, and weeding was done. Not to mention a whole host of people who decided to have a go at growing their own fruit and veg. In fact the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) said it had seen a spike in visits to its online advice pages on how to grow your own vegetables, fruit and edible plants and online stockists have also seen a boost in sales of vegetable seeds, seed potatoes and herbs, as well as other plants and gardening equipment.

Many saw the reopening of garden centres as a positive move, not just economically but for the health benefits gardening can have, especially to those who have been isolating at home as it’s a chance to have something to keep them occupied as well as keep fit.

Transforming your garden into a living space outside, could also potentially add value to your home as people are looking for extra rooms in a home.

Blending your exterior and interior spaces and setting up an outdoor living room is a key trend for 2020, announced experts at Dobbies Garden Centres.

It’s no longer about bringing the outside in, or the inside out, but rather merging the two together.

You don’t have to spend a fortune to appreciate your garden. What will give you more pleasure is making it your own personal space for you and the family to relax and enjoy and hopefully soak up the sun.
