Leading The Way

Experienced equestrian Emily Whiteside had a vision of becoming the North West’s premier show jumping venue, and since taking over Northcote Stud in 2019 that dream has become a reality, writes Gail Bailey

“Our ethos is simple,” explains Emily Whiteside of Northcote Stud. “We strive to provide top sport and a venue that everyone will enjoy visiting. No matter what the event, you will find the same attention to detail and a friendly welcome.”

With over 16 multi-day shows per year, Northcote is becoming a leader in ‘stay- away’ events: “Riders come down from Scotland to compete and also travel from as far south as Devon,” says Emily. “Our stables regularly sell out within two days.”

Events held at Northcote Stud are both regional and international and in January 2022 they will be the first event centre in the UK to combine a tour, hosting ‘Jump North’ with Aintree: “The event will be two weeks at Aintree and here at Northcote for two,” Emily explains. “This gives riders the benefit of being able to compete in more than one event, but not have to travel too far.”

Corporate sponsors of events at Northcote Stud are reaping the benefits of live streaming from Clip My Horse, which is a global platform watched by thousands of people.

Emily says: “Our current streaming figures have been fantastic. For our event in May we had over 9,400 video views from 42 different countries and from our prestigious young horse event in June, we had an amazing 17,500 views! The average viewing time for each was 1hr 15 minutes and as Clip my Horse has an annual reach of 18 million, it’s a fantastic way for companies to get the enjoyment of sponsoring an event, along with a wide advertising reach.”

As well as an advert on the live stream, sponsorship can be in a multitude of ways such as an arena board, preferential stabling and parking, hospitality for businesses to bring their clients with VIP seating, social media promotion and links on the website, branded merchandise, trade stand space and a chance to meet the winning athletes with presentation photographs.

“It is important to us that companies see and receive the benefits of being a sponsor, and we make sure it is a wonderful way to market their company and be part of a thrilling sport,” Emily adds. Recent sponsors, George and Michaela Whitaker from Dallamires Stables said: “We love supporting Northcote, we can’t thank the Whiteside’s enough for doing so much for the sport, young horses and creating a venue like Northcote.”

The fabulous facilities at Northcote aren’t restricted to the three arenas and luxury stabling: “We have The Bridle Café, which supplies a wide range of meals with a focus on modern street food from Aindough & Co, plus our new Saddle Lounge Bar, which we launched in October 2021,” says Emily.

The stylish lounge is the perfect place to grab a drink, have a great view of the arena plus regular live entertainment.

Tickets for the public to attend the regional events are free, making it the perfect day out spent with family and friends – and keep a look out in the New Year for the chance to purchase tickets for the International Show Jumping Event.

Emily says: “The best way to make sure you don’t miss an event is by following our Facebook page (see the link below), click and like the page as tickets always sell out quickly!”
