In what has been a fabulous reincarnation, a new-look bar and club has been created for those who worship live music
If you love live music and memorable nights, then the Ribble Valley is the place to be. Having undergone a total transformation the former late-night rendezvous that was Rio’s, is now a cosmopolitan-style venue that is attracting big names.
In the centre of Whalley is the all-new alta that offers something for everyone, with multi-generational appeal, featuring all music genres, live bands, club classics and guest DJs across every weekend.
Alta offers great experiences that appeal to all age groups – a full programme of events every Friday, Saturday and Sunday along with a new-look, sophisticated re-vamp has created a city-style venue, which recently launched with a weekend of free live music.
The new re-brand, refurbished premises and first-class music, delighted the thousand or so people who walked through the doors to see top tribute bands, guest Ibiza DJs and a celebration of Northern Soul.
Future line-ups will be similar with each weekend night being totally different. Still keeping the bedrock that made Rio’s a roaring success, alta will be open until 4am for those who want to party until the early hours. But the venue will also have early happy hours, live bands up until midnight and DJs to take revellers late into the night.
Under the same ownership of Becky and Jonny Crompton, the son of the original owner, the rebrand is a response to shifting trends and demographics. Whalley along with neighbouring towns Barrow and Clitheroe has seen huge development over the past few years and it is this that has prompted the reincarnation, to create a more sophisticated venue that appeals to a 25 to 65 age group.
With a smart new dark blue and copper interior, sound-proofing and all-new lighting, sound system and stage, alta is set to welcome some of the best live bands in the UK.
Also available for private hire and parties, alta is looking forward to regular Wigan Casino themed nights, 80s pop, Motown, Elvis and Adele – everything from soul to ska, rock to reggae – there is something for everyone!
