Planning For Holistic Home In Greenbelt

Planning approval has been granted for a super home that is being designed with Vastu and Feng Shui principles in mind

The team at ZMA are delighted to have achieved planning approval for a holistic super home in the West Lancashire green belt.

This site is surrounded by trees and has a brook which passes through the site. The site is orientated with the primary sunlight located towards the road and entrance rather than the view or garden, which creates a conflict between privacy, receiving natural sunlight and maximising the views.

There is a modest volume and ground floor footprint limit on the site, with the volume limit for this borough being lower than other local authorities (20 per cent increase from the existing volume on the site), whereas the client required a 70 per cent increase to accommodate their requirements for a 10,000 sq ft super home.

The client also had an additional requirement to design the property to both Feng Shui and Vastu design principles. Vastu is the Indian art of architectural design and part of the Indian tradition of sacred knowledge along with yoga, ayurveda and astrology. It provides a set of mathematical rules and guidelines to architects, builders, craftsmen, masons and carpenters for the arrangement and construction of buildings to be built in harmony with the spiritual energies of the universe.

Feng Shui is a unique combination of traditional Chinese philosophy, art and science. It is a powerful catalyst for creating positive change through a sensitive understanding of how the natural and man-made environment shapes people’s lives.

Vastu and Feng Shui share the ultimate objective to create a harmonious and well-balanced living environment where the occupants will thrive. There are many similarities and shared understandings between the principles of Vastu and Feng Shui, a sensitive combination of both disciplines can be advantageous to create the best outcome for a house design and the people who live in it.

The design has been approved, setting a volume increase precedent for West Lancashire, and includes a full wellness suite with spa, swimming pool, gym, games room, bar, a rooftop entertaining terrace and outdoor kitchen. The design connects every room directly to an outdoor space including balconies, covered terraces and a sunken terrace blending indoor and outdoor living.

If you have a site which requires a bespoke design in order to achieve planning approval – send us your site address with a brief description of what you want to achieve and we will take it from there.
