Style And Service

When it comes to stylish home-improvement solutions, you’ll find there’s many a surprise in store at this Garstang business, writes Kate Ford. Photography: SusieQPhotography.co.uk

Spring is just around the corner. It’s the season for fresh starts and a time when many people think about giving their homes a makeover. Whether you’re considering a whole new kitchen, or just to spruce up your hallway or another room, there’s a team of experts in Garstang who can turn your vision into a reality.

The team at Howdens’s Joinery are passionate about home improvements. They specialise in beautiful kitchens, expertly fitted by skilled tradespeople, but they also offer a range of external and internal doors, flooring options including solid wood and laminates, bathroom fittings, wet wall overlays and stylish home accessories.

“Our reputation for fabulous kitchens is fairly well known,” says Tim Smart, manager of Howdens in Garstang, “but I’m not sure people are so aware of the other service we offer. One of our beautiful external doors, for example, combined with new wood flooring and internal doors, could absolutely transform the entrance and hallway of a home, making it look and feel like new.”

Howdens works in partnership with the skilled local tradespeople. The team strongly believes that your own trusted builder or joiner is the best person to undertake your kitchen installation or other home improvement project which is why they only sell to trade. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t go in to see them, have a chat about what you want and see the range of products on offer.

“We’re delighted to welcome members of the public to the showroom,” says Tim. “People can have a look round, see the different styles, the accessories and the appliances, whilst we chat about what they’re looking for and talk them through the different options.”

“Many customers will come with their builder or joiner, but others come on their own. We work with over 400 trusted tradespeople so can always find you someone who will fit your kitchen to the highest professional standard.”

The Howdens kitchen range is very impressive, with something to suit the look and style of any home, from rustic farmhouse to glossy contemporary. One of its latest innovations is the ‘linear look’, where the gleaming units, super-efficient appliances, slimline worktops and stylish lighting combine to create a feeling of luxury and comfort which cannot be beaten.

There are kitchens for smaller spaces, inspired by loft-living and capable of making the optimum use of space available, alongside the classic Shaker-style, inspired by tradition but brought up to date with contemporary design, in a choice of timeless shades or the latest on-trend colours.

“We understand that, as well as being functional, a kitchen needs to be desirable,” says kitchen designer, Danielle Cathcart. “We’ll make sure your kitchen works hard for you and looks absolutely fabulous at the same time.”

Howdens offer a free measuring service, visiting the customer’s home to see the actual space they’ll be working with. “We get a feel for the space and can find out exactly what the customer wants from it. By being there we might even be able to suggest some things they haven’t considered,” says Danielle.

Customers can choose from a range of appliances from Neff, AEG, Bosch and Lamona, all of which will be in stock. Worktops, sinks, handles and taps are selected by the customer to create the perfect look.

Towards the end of the design process, customers visit the showroom for a large screen, 3D presentation of their kitchen, making any final adjustments until it is exactly how they want it.

“Once you’ve agreed your design, everything your builder needs will be here and available,” says Tim. “There’s no eight-week lead time with us. You can have your kitchen fitted as soon as you and your builder are ready, whether that’s in a couple of weeks’ time or tomorrow.”

The same caring service and attention to detail applies if you are putting in an en-suite, a utility room or new flooring. “We offer a very personal service, bespoke to your individual requirements, and we’ll work with your builder to ensure your home improvements are installed perfectly, on time and within budget.”

So, if you’re ready for a springtime makeover, have a browse of the Howdens website or pop into the showroom in Garstang to chat to the friendly, home-improvement experts on your doorstep.
