Travel in Style

With travel restrictions easing, there’s lots to look forward to. We take a look what it’s like to visit the fashion cities of the world

London, Milan, New York and Paris are known as the global fashion capitals of the 21st century, but what is it that makes them the most popular places to visit on a city break?

London attracts visitors from all over the world. With its historical buildings and modern structures, its shopping and sport, museums and attractions, it really does have something for everyone. You can take a culinary journey around the world with some of London’s diverse restaurants or enjoy a leisurely cruise down the River Thames.

There’s a range of accommodation – the only difficult part is deciding what you want to see first. For more information visitlondon.com.

Milan oozes style and sophistication. It’s best to avoid visiting in August as it can be unbearably hot. It’s also a time when many locals go on their holidays so plan your holiday carefully.

It has an abundance of beautiful buildings and some of the world’s finest architects have contributed to the city, but it’s probably best known for its fashion. It’s a magnet for designers, artists, photographers and models.

There’s plenty to explore. Meander through the streets and you’re guaranteed to find a good place to eat or a boutique to take home a new item or two for your wardrobe.

New York, New York, so good they named it twice. Make sure you pack your walking shoes, as it’s the best way of getting around and seeing the sights.

New York has plenty of culture. Here you can visit some of the world’s best museums and art galleries. Take in Times Square or explore the Empire State Building, a 102-story Art Deco skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan. A visit to the Grand Central Terminal is a must as is the Statue of Liberty.

Paris is not only known as the city of romance but the capital of fashion. A lot of the major French fashion brands, such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Dior have their headquarters here. You may want to dress more formally in Paris to fit in with the locals.

For sight-seeing, there’s also an abundance of attractions from the Eiffel Tower, the Musée du Louvre to the Arc de Triomphe. The café culture in Paris is also second to none. At the heart of both the social and culinary life in the French capital, the popularity of pavement cafes is world renowned.

It’s a chance to relax and simply watch the world go by.

If you’re visiting any of the above cities for fashion weeks, these are generally held in February and September so plenty of time to get planning for 2021!
