Outstanding Facilities

On Your Doorstep

It’s another important year for this school by the sea, as the spotlight falls on its younger pupils who are looking forward to an impressive new building, writes Kate Ford

The new year is always an exciting time at Rossall School, with pupils returning after their festive break full of stories and happy to reconnect with friends. There is always something to look forward to on campus, too, as this school is constantly developing its facilities to maintain its unique and vibrant learning environment.

In 2020, the spotlight is falling on the nursery and on the lower junior school which looks after pupils aged four to seven.

The nursery is set to move to a new, fully refurbished suite of rooms which, due to popular demand, will include its first baby room for children aged from three months to two years.

The improved nursery building, opening in September 2020, will have separate areas for babies, two-year olds and pre-school children, all of them light and airy with premium facilities and direct access to dedicated outdoor play areas and gardens. Rossall expects the new baby provision to be very popular with local families and is delighted to be participating in the government scheme to offer 30 hours of funded childcare to eligible parents.

“We have nine places in the baby room, but further places are available for two to four-year olds,” says Matt Turner, head of the nursery and junior school. “This wonderfully spacious new facility provides stimulating and age appropriate surroundings for learning, structured play and personal development for children in their formative years.”

Further refurbishment will create enhanced new teaching spaces for the junior school’s four to seven-year olds, with state-of-the-art facilities and a new library and learning development room. They too will have their own outdoor area as well as access to the school’s own beach. Rossall’s Nursery and Junior School is a designated Beach School, officially recognised as using its coastal location as a resource for outdoor play and learning.

A further interactive and sensory play area is also being created for use by all pupils in the Nursery and Junior School (ages 4-11). This area is being designed by one of Rossall’s own Year 13 pupils, Kate Parkinson, as part of the product design and architecture course she is taking alongside her A level studies.

“Our vision is to be the outstanding nursery and junior school in the region, and our facilities are second to none,” says Matt Turner. “All our children have access to the beach, to our own petting farm and to the impressive sport and arts facilities on campus.

“We believe we are exceptionally well-equipped to deliver every possible opportunity for the children to thrive, develop and grow their potential, in a warm and supportive environment.”
