A WINNING COMBINATION

Zara Moon and Paul Beneduce have combined their skills to offer an outstanding service for high quality architectural design, writes Gail Bailey

Zara Moon and Paul Beneduce set up Zara Moon Architects (ZMA) in 2017.

Both local, they have quickly become a leading company in design and building and have worked on a number of exciting projects across the Ribble Valley and beyond.

With only 26 per cent of architects being women, Zara carved herself a path over a nine-year process of qualifying, and then perfecting her skills at a practice in Liverpool, before meeting Paul and making the decision to join forces: “The combination of my professional skills with Paul’s experience in construction means we are able to provide both the creative and practical advice that is needed in any building project,” says Zara.

Having been involved in the industry for more than 15 years and having a proven track record as a contractor, Paul has worked on some high profile and high value construction schemes. Some of these have included projects in Alderley Edge and Paul was also one of the key masons that built Sawley Hall in the Ribble Valley. With a full and rounded understanding of construction in all its forms, this means that as Managing Director of ZMA he and Zara work closely together, so all projects have the perfect combination of construction and design from day one.

Zara adds: “We are able to ensure that our clients receive exactly what they want from the brief, while giving them a bespoke solution. Having Paul’s construction knowledge means that together we know what will and won’t work. Sometimes what an architect draws can’t always be done on site, but with Paul and I working together this is avoided.”

With Zara as Lead Architect and Paul as Managing Director they have an obvious synergy and real enthusiasm for the work they do. Along with a Project Co-ordinator and CAD Technician they are a close-knit team who stand out for their fresh and personable approach: ”Everything we do is with the client in mind,” says Zara. “We work hard to ensure that we really understand what the client wants and keep that as our focus throughout every project.”

Some of ZMA’s recent developments include the amazing transformation of Brockhall Farm in Langho, which includes the conversion of a number of large agricultural, red brick farm buildings into eight unique, exclusive homes with over 22,000 sq ft of living space, Mums Harris Farm in Affetside, Bury, which was a complete reconfiguration of an existing farmhouse, including a barn conversion and extension to create a six-bedroom home over 6,400 sq ft and Hetlands, an exclusive development in Bolton creating four six-bedroom, four-storey luxury properties.

“Each of our luxury home designs incorporate the wow-factor with contemporary living and specific requirements tailored for each client, such as expansive open-plan kitchen dining and media rooms. We always endeavour to maximise natural light and connect to the garden – these are always at the forefront of our designs,” says Zara.

ZMA have expertise in both residential and commercial work as Paul explains: “We understand what our clients need from a commercial venture, such as a bar or restaurant, as well as their individual home. Our multi-faceted approach means we are able to advise on a number of different levels at the same time.”

ZMA’s fresh approach to building or re-configurating properties often includes working on eco-projects: “Many of our projects include environmentally low-impact homes and businesses where we design and build using materials and technology that reduces the carbon footprint and running costs, but built to a high specification,” explains Zara.

Enthusiasm for what they do is clear when chatting to Zara and Paul. They combine their practical, artistic and technical abilities to consider all aspects of a project, balancing how a building feels, how it looks, how it works, how it flows and how it relates to the client’s vision.

Customer testimonies illustrate this, as one states: “ZMA are highly professional, truly listen and communicate, have impeccable standards, have great patience, tremendous creativity and have fantastic ideas. Zara Moon Architects are most personable and responsive – nothing is an issue to them, we changed plans, adjusted layouts and their attention to detail and timeliness was evident.”

“We design, plan, manage building regulations, oversee site feasibilities and source land for clients (both buying and selling) to ensure projects run professionally and smoothly from start to finish,” Paul concludes.

“Transforming buildings and improving people’s lives is our goal. We love creating high-quality architecture and every project is design and context driven, which makes each scheme unique and bespoke to the client’s requirements.”
