NEW GENERATION

Canterbury Fireplaces owner Lucas Everett talks Sarah Varley through the amazing new generation of electric fires available at their huge Blackburn showroom

Electric fires have advanced unbelievably in the last five years,” Canterbury Fireplaces owner Lucas Everett tells me. “If you haven’t looked at them lately, you really need to come and see our electric fires in action.”

There are more than 50 electric fires on live display in the showroom in Blackburn so that customers can see the different effects and finishes available and try out the controls for themselves.

“The flame pictures on electric fires have improved so much, we have customers mistaking them for real gas flames,” Lucas says. “One of the many benefits of electric fires is that there are so many options to personalise them so you get exactly the effect you want. They nearly all have remote or app control options so you can select the flame effect you like best and change the brightness and the colour tones to create the perfect ambience for your room, all at the touch of a button.”

Customers can choose from a wide range of styles, from electric fires fitted into any style of fireplace, to electric stoves and wall-hung fires.

“Electric stoves are extremely popular at the moment, and we have been carrying a lot of installations recently involving building out false chimney breasts. Lots of customers are coming to us where they have a new-build home and don’t actually need a fire for the heat as their home is so well insulated and heated, but they have found they are missing that focal point and interest a fire brings to a room,” adds Lucas.

“We have also been installing lots of electric fires with TVs built into a false chimney breast above them, which is a great option because the TV looks really sleek built in and doesn’t get hot because you have a fan heater circulating heat really efficiently around the room rather than upwards to the TV.”

“The majority of electric fires now run on LED lights so they are extremely cheap to run and the bulbs last thousands of hours so there is very little maintenance required at all. Installation costs are lower and as there is no need for a chimney or flue, they can go into any house and in any location you like.”

There are many different options available from fantastic brands such as Flamerite, Gazco, Charlton & Jenrick and Vision E-Line, as Lucas explains: “A couple of my favourite electric fires at the moment are the Opty-mist range by Dimplex which have an amazing mist feature that looks like smoke rising up through the logs, and the new Halo range from Evonic Fires, which combine a completely personalised flame display with crystal-clear anti-reflective glass for a stunning effect and are Alexa-compatible for ultimate convenience.”
