Gas or electric, chimney or no chimney, heat output and efficiency? Lucas Everett of Canterbury Fireplaces answers some of your questions
Canterbury Fireplaces recently asked their Instagram followers (@canterbury_fireplaces) what questions they would like answering in this month’s edition of Live Ribble Valley. Here are the most frequently asked questions they received:
Can I have a TV above my fire?
Yes, all electric fires are suitable to have a TV above. For gas or solid fuel options there are some regulations in place that we can go over in store.
Can I have a fire installed even if I don’t have a chimney?
Yes, same again, none of the electric fires we provide require a chimney, although we can design and install a bespoke false chimney if the customer requires. Recently, we have been providing this service a lot more as media walls have become more and more popular. There are also more options than ever available for gas and wood burners that don’t require a chimney.
I would like a media wall but I don’t know if I have enough space?
It shouldn’t be an issue, each and every media wall we build is designed specifically for the individual customer and their home ensuring it meets their own needs and style.
Which option is better gas or electric?
There are pros and cons to both options. Electrics have become more popular as you have a lot more choice and styles to choose from. One of the key features of most modern electric fires are the HD flames, they’re that realistic in most cases you cannot tell the difference from a real flame, add to this that the majority of modern electric fires also have cool features such as downloadable apps to control all aspects of the fire, they’re extremely convenient to use as well as being 100 per cent efficient. Gas on the other hand has a higher heat output and is still highly sought after but with so many new builds not having chimneys and being built extremely efficiently, the need for a high heat output has reduced.
