Rambling New Drop

Let’s Take A Walk…

This is a circular walk that takes in some wonderful scenery through the Ribble Valley countryside. There are also some fantastic views across the Loud and Hodder valleys when you reach Spire Hill

Start point: New Drop car park
Distance: 7 miles
Time: 3 to 4 hours

As you start off from the New Drop car park, turn left passing the front of the pub and turn left at the crossroads down the hill. The path goes through a gate on the left hand side of the road. Cross the field to a double stile and continue across the field to the corner and turn right through a gate.

Cross the next field to a gate and go down the lane to the road. Turn left onto the road and continue down the hill to a small bridge. Turn left over the stile into the field by the side of the cottages. Cross the field to a stile in the corner and follow the edge of the wood to a kissing gate which leads onto the lane to Dutton Manor. Turn left and walk 20m and then turn right on to a track up to a stile. Turn left, walking past a stone barn up to a gate, then bear right to a stile in the corner of the field, following the wood which is on your left. Continue up the edge of the wood to a gate. Follow the path around Cutler’s Hill heading to a gate at a sheep pen which then leads on to Huntingdon Hall Lane. Turn left on the road and walk 100m and where the road turns left, go through the gate facing you.

Turn right and follow the fence past gorse bushes on the left to an A frame stile and then continue down the hill to a track. Turn left, following the track past Crowshaw House to the road. Turn right and walk 50m then go through a gate on the left.

Follow the path to the footbridge and continue up past Green Thorn Farm, following the path which bears right above the farm and continue up to the forest track.

Turn left, then right and walk up 100m on the forest track. When the track turns right take the path on the left through the trees. After 100m the track turns left. Continue up through the trees, bringing you out on open land to Spire Hill trig point where you can enjoy lovely views over the Loud and Hodder valleys.

The path follows the wall which is on your right. At the end of the wood turn right over the stone stile then follow the path over open fell land, bearing left at the stream and following the stone cairns to the car park. On reaching the road turn left and this leads you back to the New Drop.
