Turn left over the stile into the field by the side of the cottages. Cross the field to a stile in the corner and follow the edge of the wood to a kissing gate which leads onto the lane to Dutton Manor. Turn left and walk 20m and then turn right on to a track up to a stile. Turn left, walking past a stone barn up to a gate, then bear right to a stile in the corner of the field, following the wood which is on your left. Continue up the edge of the wood to a gate. Continue up through the trees, bringing you out on open land to Spire Hill trig point where you can enjoy lovely views over the Loud and Hodder valleys.

The path follows the wall which is on your right. At the end of the wood turn right over the stone stile then follow the path over open fell land, bearing left at the stream and following the stone cairns to the car park. On reaching the road turn left and this leads you back to the New Drop.
