VIBRANT SETTLE

Experience something new in the idyllic Yorkshire Dales town of Settle, which will become a stage for international artists this spring

There is something for everyone in the vibrant Yorkshire Dales town of Settle – independent shops and boutiques, cafes, bistros and bars, as well as the annual event that is the Settle Stories Festival.

At the heart of the town is Settle Town Hall which has recently been converted to house a host of independent shops and businesses. It has become a premier location for exclusive products and first rate services. While customers can enjoy the on-line presence of these businesses, they love visiting the totally refurbished Town Hall where they can see the distinctive products and enjoy the personal touch that is so often lacking. You can discover a world of art, soft furnishings, fashion, interior design as well as friendly legal and financial services – all set within this historic building.

Each year the Settle Stories Festival brings thousands of visitors to the town to see artists who are more likely to be spotted at the Barbican, Southbank Centre and other prestigious world stages. What makes this year’s Settle Stories Festival different is the new immersive technology that will make the experience more exciting than ever.

You can log in to the Settle Stories Festival and play Wi-Fi Wars. Heralded by national press, this is a live comedy game show where you play along on your smartphone.

From 21st century fun to a story that has stood the test of time. One of the North’s most loved storytellers, Ursula Holden Gill will be re-telling one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Settle’s newest venue, the Joinery.

Also featuring in the programme is 2 Magpies Theatre presenting Last Resort, telling the story of an alternative future for Guantanamo Bay. Don’t miss the festival talks either. Big Issue North joins the line-up with a talk about how smart phones are changing us more than we might think at Interactive Fiction.

As ever there is plenty going on for families. You won’t be able to miss The Whale – Settle Market Place will be transformed by an amazing 50 foot inflatable. Inside will be free interactive story-telling performances with Circo Rum Ba Ba, one of the leading circus theatre companies in the UK.

Another family highlight has to be The Queen & the Jester and don’t miss The Hip Hop Griot either – a fusion of hip hop and story-telling with Alim Kamara.

Settle Stories in April is just one of many attractions this wonderful town has to offer – try the Flower Pot Festival throughout July and August or visit Settle Victoria Hall – the oldest music hall in the world and recently enhanced as a state-of-the-art cinema, complementing its established programme of top-line artists. So why not pay Settle a visit this spring, you will get lots of entertainment at the festival along with a whole host of exciting specialist shops and retail outlets.
