A MAGICAL DAY…

Globe trotters Adam and Tabitha explain why they chose the historic Samlesbury Hall as their wedding venue. Photography: Joe Mather

Where did you meet?
Adam and I met back in 2010 when we were at rival universities (King’s College London and University College London). It was all a bit Montague vs Capulet. We met at a nightclub serving £1 cocktails, hence we fell in love.

Tell us a little bit about yourselves.
We love holidays and are real globe trotters. So much so that Tabitha has managed to plan a minimoon, buddymoon and honeymoon off the back of the wedding and is already planning where to go for our first anniversary. To have all of these holidays, we both work hard but love what we do. Tabitha is a lawyer and Adam is a management consultant. Neither of us are at all creative so we found the best suppliers to make our day magical.

Where are you both from? If you aren’t local then why choose Lancashire?
Tabitha is originally from Lancashire so she wanted to go back to her roots for her wedding. Tabitha’s mum lives in Bury so marrying in the north allowed her to be wedding planner in chief! Adam is from London so he thought a passport would be required to travel to Lancashire! Both families loved the venue.

What made you pick Samlesbury Hall? Can you tell us how you first heard about the hall as a wedding venue?
We picked Samlesbury Hall because it is such a striking venue, steeped in history but with a relaxed vibe. It was also very convenient for our guests travelling from the south as it was easy to get to and from Preston station plus there were lots of accommodation options. We also adored the shepherd’s huts on-site. Our guests enjoyed partying until the early hours around campfires.

What did you eat for your wedding breakfast?
We wanted to embrace the north so we had steak pie and chips which were absolutely delicious. For dessert we had sticky toffee pudding. We were very lucky to have warm, sunny weather and so our guests enjoyed canapes and ice cream during the afternoon.

Did the team at Samlesbury Hall help you in making decisions?
The Samlesbury Hall team were fantastic from the moment we made our first enquiry. The team guided us – from what foods worked well together to liaising directly with our suppliers. They were very relaxed on the day and always there to help us in the build-up.

What was the best part of your day?
It is so hard to pick a moment but I have to say that our vows were the most special part. We decided to write our own and Adam, who is usually not known for his linguistic talent, shocked us all by writing the most beautiful vows. It was either that or the surprise belly dancer that Adam’s dad organised to honour our Middle Eastern heritages.

Anything else you would like to add?
Our suppliers were fantastic. Frog Flowers blew us away putting together the most beautiful floral displays. Sonara Parker and Mairead at Wedlocks did a great job in making Tabitha look beautiful (make-up and hair) and Joe Mather was a pleasure to be around and left us with beautiful photographic memories. Jessica Avison was the talented singer who performed in the afternoon and also happened to be Tabitha’s childhood friend.
