ROMANCE IS IN THE AIR…

When newlyweds Katrina and Christopher Greenwood were planning their big day, there was one venue they had truly set their heart on – Samlesbury Hall. Photography: Petal & Blush Artistry

Christopher and Katrina Greenwood were engaged to be married while on a romantic cruise two years ago. Katrina is an English language teacher for international students preparing for university, while Chris is a financial controller at a Garstang property development firm. The couple have known each other for five years and met while Katrina was living in Cyprus. Here they explain why they chose Samlesbury Hall as the venue for their summer wedding.

Can you tell us how you first heard about Samlesbury Hall as a wedding venue?
We have known about Samlesbury Hall since childhood, but first heard about it as a venue when starting the wedding fayre adventure! We decided to visit other venues in the area first, but nothing quite fitted with how we pictured spending our dream day. The moment the car pulled into the driveway and the hall came into view, I got goose bumps. It was stunning! Our choice was made there and then.

What was important to you and Christopher about your wedding day?
For Chris and I the day was very much composed of two distinct parts. The first, to make our lifelong commitment in the eyes of the church. The second, to ensure that all our guests could enjoy every minute of the best day of our lives.

Did the team at Samlesbury Hall help you make decisions?
We were guided throughout and felt fully supported. We had eaten a few times at Samlesbury prior to the wedding and were confident about the food on the day. Canapes on arrival were fantastic, and just what was in order after a late-running church service. Guests were treated to a simple but delicious tomato, basil and red split pea soup for starters, roast chicken fillet and fondant potato for mains and a beautifully light crème brulee for dessert. We were particularly impressed when the staff kept the remaining cheeseboard aside for the evening guests. In addition, chips and bacon sandwiches were served later.

Was Samlesbury Hall perfect for photography?
After weeks of rain and miserable weather, the morning our wedding started out in pretty much the same way. However, by midday, the clouds parted and the sunshine made a rare appearance. We could not believe our luck as Samlesbury boasts the most picturesque grounds for photographs. The main lawn made a beautiful area to get fantastic snaps, and the hall made the perfect backdrop. Later in the day, our photographer came across a secluded spot in the grounds which made for the most perfect setting with the setting sun peeping through the trees.

What sort of feedback did you get from the guests who attended your wedding?
The guests had very positive comments about the quality of the food. Furthermore, guests were very satisfied that there was never an empty glass! Staff really went over and above in ensuring that guests’ needs were fulfilled.
