CALENDAR COMPETITION

A Seasons of the Ribble Valley 2021 calendar is to be launched in aid of a dementia charity and talented local photographers are being asked to submit their entries

A photography competition has been launched in aid of the Beating Dementia Fund (BDF) which was set up by John Fagan two years ago in memory of his wife, Margaret, who died in 2017, after suffering a rare and debilitating form of dementia.

The fund aims to raise much needed money for dementia charities and, to date, has donated to the Alzheimer’s Society, the National Brain Appeal and the Defying Dementia Campaign at Lancaster University.

John, a keen photographer, created calendars in 2019/2020 featuring photographs of places in the Ribble Valley much loved by Margaret and himself. The calendars were stocked in local outlets including Breda Murphy, Shackletons, Melt, Bashall Barn, Genesis and Holmes Mill and sales have so far raised over £6000 for dementia charities.

The BDF aims to create a 2021 calendar, this time with a difference. They would like to celebrate the talents of people taking beautiful photographs of the Ribble Valley by holding a competition to find 12 images of the area, each illustrating the beauty of a different month, that will be used to create next year’s calendar.

All proceeds from sales of the calendar will be donated to dementia charities.

Terms and conditions:
The photographs should be taken in landscape mode, be of high resolution and be the work of the entrant who must have sole copyright over the photograph. The images should be of scenes and should not include identifiable people.
Up to three colour photographs per entrant may be submitted and should be emailed to: johnhenryfagan@btinternet.com in JPEG format. The email should include the name and contact details of the entrant and where the photo/photos were taken. Any entrants under the age of 16 should have their parent’s permission.
The images selected will be credited with the name of the winners in the calendar and by entering the competition the winners agree to their photographs being published in the calendar and for promotional purposes.
All entries should be submitted by the end of July 2020.
Judging will be by members of the BDF committee. Their decision will be final. Winners will be notified by the end of August 2020.
