Sarah Varley talks to Director of Chipping Homes Ken Whitaker as the first families prepare to move in to Fellside, an exclusive new development

Finding your ideal home is not just about choosing where you want to live, but the way you want to live. Nestling within miles of open rural countryside, forests and working farmland, Fellside at Chipping is surrounded by fells, rivers and leafy country parks, so families are attracted by the lifestyle on offer in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) as much as the stunning, bespoke homes.

“Coming home to an area like this is very appealing for people wanting balance,” explains Ken Whitaker, Director of Chipping Homes. “If you have been sitting at a desk all day, having gorgeous countryside right on your doorstep is so important for your mental and physical wellbeing.”

Rich in heritage, Chipping has many special qualities, from wild open moorland, to incredible wildlife and delicious food and drink. This unique location offers something for the whole family to enjoy all year round.

There are cycling and walking routes and a thriving local community.

Fellside is part of an exciting project that includes the renovation of the Grade II listed Kirk Mill.

Each of the properties has been carefully designed for family life and finished to a high specification. The three, four and five bedroom properties all have driveways and double or single garages on good-sized plots with lovely gardens to enjoy. Internal double doors opening onto the garden help bring the outside in.

“Phase 1, which comprises of 22 houses of the 39-property development, is almost complete and there are only a handful still available, so the first families are preparing to move in,” Ken states. “This is hugely exciting for us to see as providing the perfect setting for family life is our driving ethos.”

Fellside is the perfect example of environmentally-friendly homes without compromise on style or location. Each home is fitted with eco-friendly air source heat pumps and smart technology appliances.

Many of the properties are also fitted with electric car charging points, another example of the way Chipping Homes incorporate future-proofing, eco-friendly solutions. As a result, the green credentials of the homes at Fellside are some of the highest available on the new-build market.

“We are doing things differently from a lot of house builders, it is important to us that we do what we can to make positive changes for the environment,” Ken says.

Chipping Homes have also been working with B4RN, a community project to bring fibre-optic broadband to rural areas. “We have incorporated ducting up to every property, so families will be able to sign up to the scheme. Their connection should be better than many places despite the rural location, which is great for flexible working from home or meeting the online demands of teenagers.”

Chipping also has highly Ofsted rated primary schools and Chipping Homes have been working with the children with competitions hoping to inspire a future generation of eco-conscious builders.
