Raising Awareness

A glittering charity evening recently raised substantial funding for Prostate Cancer UK – thanks to the support of local entrepreneurs and international menswear brands

A hugely successful charity event organised by Scruples 1984 in Barrowford has raised more than £14,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

In a bid to raise more awareness of the charity, luxury menswear store Scruples hosted the event at Will’s Wine Bar and Kitchen located nearby.

The charity was chosen after Scruples’ founder Stephen Collins was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year. Following successful treatment Stephen, along with store manager Tom Orrell, decided to stage the fund-raiser, as Tom explains: “As a menswear shop, we wanted to make people aware of the charity and we wanted to give something back following Stephen’s treatment at the end of last year.

“It’s a wonderful charity and people have been unbelievably generous.”

The ticketed event, which was extremely well attended, included a welcome drink, raffle ticket and a £250 voucher towards a made-to-measure garment from Scruples 1984.

A saxophonist greeted guests on their arrival to Will’s Bar, setting the scene for what turned out to be a lively, well-supported evening.

Host Tom introduced a raffle with 25 prizes that included vouchers for Yu Copster Green, a visit to Crowood and generous vouchers from Scruples’ top designer labels including Paul & Shark, Tramarossa, Loake, MACKAGE and Vilebrequin.

A silent auction followed when guests were able to bid for experiences including an all-expenses paid box for the day to watch Burnley FC play Manchester City, a two-piece made-to-measure jacket from Scruples’ in-house luxury tailoring brand, a made-to-measure suit by Scruples, dinner at the Three Millstones, a two-person Top Gun experience, a one-night stay at Gilpin Hotel and Lake House, dinner at the Michelin-starred White Horse, a wine hamper from the Whalley Wine Shop and a £1600 voucher by Canali tailoring.

“The support we got from our customers and suppliers has been amazing,” says Tom. “The atmosphere at Will’s Bar was perfect – the evening was a roaring success and we want to say a huge thank-you to everyone who contributed to the event!”
